Lucy Liu is an actress who gained her fame from the TV series "Ally McBeal" and later went on to star in major films. She was born December 2nd, 1968 in Queens, New York. Her parents are Taiwanese immigrants and spoke Mandarin. Lucy Liu didn't learn English until the age of five.

After graduating from the esteemed Stuyvesant High School in 1986, Liu went to New York University for a year before changing schools to the University of Michigan. There, she receive a BS in Asian Languages and Cultures. Her first dappling into acting was in one of her university's play productions. After this, she auditioned and received small parts in TV series and films. In 1998, Liu landed a part in the TV series "Alley McBeal" and was well received. Even though her character was only supposed to be occasional, she became a permanent member of the cast and received an Emmy nomination for her role. The show lasted until 2002 and, by this time, Liu had established herself as an actress.

She got roles in Hollywood films like 2000's "Charlie's Angels" as well as the film's sequel. Her next major role was in 2003 in the Quentin Tarantino film "Kill Bill". In addition to acting, Liu works as an artist and has exhibited her works in three gallery shows. After a 2003 exhibition, she won a grant to pursue and study art in China. She has sold her artworks in order to raise money for UNICEF.
